vs. Kansas City Chiefs (W 41-7)
If the NFL had a "B League", the Broncos would be the undisputed bullies of the circuit. It might seem
like an accomplishment that the Broncos pounded their longtime rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs on
Sunday. More likely, it seems like that they once again found the team that is still having a shittier season than
they are.
The Chiefs have been without Larry Johnson for awhile now. In his stead, they've tried everyone from
Priest Holmes to Marcus Allen to Ed Podolak to thier latest project: Kolbi Smith. Smith...is not a very good runningback.
The Chiefs also haven't utilized their wide receivers since the days of Elvis Grbass, so this 2007
version is essential Brodie Croyle and the Human Tackling Dummys. Even Happy Little Caring Evles can kick the
crap out of Human Tackling Dummys.
On the opening drive, the Donkeys scored in 4 plays, covering 77 yards, capped with a 21 yard TD toss to
Brandon Stokely. On the throw, Jay Cutler moved outside of the pocket and fired a strike while
on the run. Encouraging signs...so as long as the tackles continue to hold, the Broncos'
passing game should be fine outside of the pocket in 2008.
Selvin Young also turned in
a career-high performance with 156 yards, and he'll definitely be in the mix for
the starting RB job for awhile. Travis Henry survived his appeal hearing as his
alledged failed drug test was thrown out. To celebrate: Henry didn't fumble and
scored two touchdowns.
Brandon Marshall continued to display the antics that are making him the
best "run-after-catch" receiver in the NFL. Yeah, you read that right. Marshall just doesn't
want to hit the turf after his catches, nowadays. He'll spin, jump, twist and
jab his way across opposing defenses after a catch. He'll even jump onto a pile
of snow and toss snowballs at the fans, drawing a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Usually, such a penalty can hurt a team. But don't froget that the Broncos were playing the
Chiefs.
There's not much more to say about this. Elvis Dumervil has 3 sacks, Todd Sauerbrun
had a 104 yard punt that wsn't blocked, Chad Mustard threw some touchdown producing blocks at H-back and
Champ Bailey intercepted a pass. On Sunday, the Broncos simply got a 60 minute dose of
Prozac from the tools in red pants. Contrary to popular belief, the team did not
"turn the corner". With the inconsistency this team has displayed (see: the malaise after
wins against Pittburgh and Tennessee), I fully expect them to get run over in
Houston this Thursday night.
They can recite their usual cliches of how "it's all in our hands" or "we just have to win
each game". The reality is that unless the Donkeys win all of their games and
every AFC squad over .500 loses all of their remaining games, they're still playing out the string for next year.
Once again, it's like basing your retirement plan on the chance that you'll win
the grand prize in McDonalds' Monopoly. But fans, get excited: it's only
8 months until the gates open for FREE seats at Training Camp!
Chop Blocks
...||... ESPN's Monday Night Tools broke out their phony, emotional, "soapbox" tone again this week. "How sad is it
that this is the most popular game in the nation and here we are talking about Michael Vick going to jail?". What bullshit.
Like you guys were ashamed to be talking about Michael Vick being sent to jail. It was a shitty game
between the Falcons and Saints (by the way: who scheduled THAT marquee matchup?)... you know that douche
Tony Kornholer was popping a boner before the game because he had some conversatin fodder. Riiiight..I'm
sure it pained all three of those turds to babble about Michael Vick for 3 hours.
...||... My slant on Michael Vick? He'll be playing football again in 2010. With the lack of quality
QB's in the league, somebody will take a chance on the guy. Now that he's incarcerated, Vick might actually
work on his passing accuracy. He'll finally lose that urge to roam around the field and will
become a better pocket passer. No..there are no prison or ass-sex jokes in that.
...||... I saw in he Denevr Post last weekend that they were SERIOUS about Matt Holliday possibly
playing quarterback. I thought that was a joke. Like me saying "Champ Bailey would make a great
centerfielder". I was appalled that roughly two weeks and several hours of "news coverage" were
put into such a worthless story.
