Due to recent events, no NFL games were played this past weekend. My political
response will be elsewhere on this site. However, I thought I'd
cheer up my fellow NFL buddies with the following bit of info:
September 17- Amaze your friends! Amaze your family! Heck, even amaze Cris Collinsworth and the hand-chopping
morons on NFL studio shows! (or, if you don't want to learn this equation, just turn a typical
doorknob, that will amaze Collinsworth). It's not nuclear fission, it's the long sought-after
NFL QB Rating System! Yes, this is the real thing.
This is the current NFL system that was
adopted in 1973, based on four performance components considered the most
important: completions, touchdowns, yards gained, and interceptions,
as percentages of the number of passes attempted. The numbers
85.68, 326.42, etc. were settled upon as "averages" back in 73.
People have been baffled by this system for years (myself included), but
it's really not too hard.
All you need is some stats, some time and a calculator.

In other words, if anyone asks you where you got this formula, give some
credit to the old man!
| Rating= [85.68 (C/A)] + [4.32 (Y/A)] + [326.42 (T/A)] - [419.07 (I/A)]
|
| Where |
A = number of passes attempted
C = number of passes completed
Y = total number of yards gained passing
T = number of touchdown passes
I = number of interceptions
|
That's it. The same equation that
the NFL uses and also the same one that's in every video game made since 1988.
(1988, of course, was the year modern male culture changed forever, with the introduction of
NFL Tecmo Bowl for the Nintendo. The first real-player/real-stats game).

FINAL CUTS
Still searching for Simon Fletcher. Sifting through Yahoo! today reveals that there's
quite a gaggle of people named "Simon Fletcher". Including an Australian
Rules Football player and a French watercolour artist. Still no info on
the Broncos' all-time sack king and hot dog entrepenuer...||...
Several sources are reporting that the NFL is on the verge of an agreement with
the referees. The Phil Luckett Comeback Tour is coming to a stadium near YOU...||...
