Bang Camaro and Black Lamb at the Bluebird Theatre
Sing along and watch out for projectile vomitting

Went out to the Bluebird Theatre the other night to see Bang Camaro. I was hesitant, but my buddy was dying to go. He's a big video game junkie and I understand Bang Camaro is included in "Guitar Hero" and "RockBand". I had heard a few of their songs and wasn't expecting much. I figured the crowd would be a buncha' video game nerds who managed to pull themselves away from "World of Warcraft" for one evening.

We got there in plenty of time to see the opening band, Black Lamb. These guys had apparently studied up on their Sabbath and Tool, as they had a nice evil sound. Their singer was a scrawny guy who soon took to projectile vomitting while on stage. At first, I thought he was just spitting water around like pro wrestlers do....but nope, this guy was puking. Gene Simmons spits blood and breathes fire... this Lead Singer From Black Lamb....pukes. It was a good thing we were sitting by the soundboard, out of spittle range. For a local band, they sounded good...the singer reminded us of the guy from "The Cult" with his wail. His physical antics reminded me of Neil Fallon from Clutch, with his herky-jerky motion. If I see these guys arond town, I'd make a mild effort to go see them again.

Bang Camaro came out to the "Theme from Conan", instantly scoring themselves Cool Points. I cracked up when all SEVEN of their lead singers came out to back-up the musicians. All seven were pumping their fists, bobbing their heads and jumping around. They played 80's metal riffs that sound like they were ripped off from Def Leppard, Dokken or the Scorpions. All their vocals sounded like the chorus to all those 80's songs, as well. If you ever saw Priest, Maiden, or the Scorpions in their prime; when they would hold the mike to the crowd and say "sing it for me!"-- Bang Camaro's music is based off of that enthusiasm. So if you ever peed your pants while singing along at a concert to "You've got Another Thing Coming", then this band is for you. It's like a big metal singalong frat party. Really, for most 80's metal tunes, people rarely knew all the lyrics... just the chorus.

For their final number, they invited everyone down to the front row and taught us how to sing their song "Nightlife Commando". It had two words. I thought it very polite that a band thought to educate us on their lyrics. That was very nice of them.

The entire show was 10 bucks. With 12 guys in Bang Camaro (and about five more for the encore), that means they made less than a dollar per member off of me. So afterwards, I dropped by their little card table to buy their CD and meet some of the guys. Nobody puked on me, either.

I had heard one or two Bang Camaro songs before this concert. But as a live band, they were much better. The next night, I looked up Black Lamb on MySpace and even downloaded a few of their tunes. So two bands won me over with their live shows....isn't that an indicator of a decent concert?
